Please note that in November 1997 the Centre for Asian and International Bioethics was established in Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Israel. The background to this idea, and that of a Senpo Sugihara Asian Bioethics Centre is below.

The idea of the Chiune (Senpo) Sugihara Asian Bioethics Centre was proposed publically in November 1994 by Frank J. Leavitt, Ph.D., in the Eubios Ethics Institute Newsletter 4 (November, 1994) 72-73. It was updated in January 1995. It was most recently updated in 2000. At the end of May, 1995, members of the Israeli embassy staff in Japan announced a proposal for a Chiune (Senpo) Sugihara Life Science Research Centre at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, to business groups in Japan. It was reported in the media, and generated interest. A new building was planned, but no further work has been reported to date.
