LBD5 in Yogyakarta (Sept. 2014)

The Universitas Gadjah Mada – Eubios Youth Looking Beyond Disaster (LBD5) Forum was hosted by University Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta, Indonesia (3-7 September, 2014).

LBD is coordinated by Eubios Ethics Institute and American University of Sovereign Nations

LBD5 call for Participation



Get a University Certificate

Attending (and submitting assignments( can count as credit towards a University Certificate... The forum will also count as 2 credits towards a University Certificate in Community and Peace (and implementing the action plan developed at LBD3 will count as a further 2 credits).

Presenters will include leading global experts, as well as some previous LBD participants presenting the implementation of their action plans.  Many new participants with experiences from rebuilding communities will join the LBD network in the Kobe meeting from other communities around the world.

Confirmed speakers include: Dr. Dwikorita Karnawati (UGM), Dr. Darryl Macer (New Zealand, AUSN, EEI, LBD Coordinator), Dr. Wahyu Wilopo (UGM), Dr. Michiko Banba (Kobe University, Japan – LBD3 host), Dr. Marlon Lofredo, St. Paul’s University QC, Philippines – LBD4 host), Dr. Bruce F. Houghton, Science Director, National Disaster Preparedness Training Center Volcanology, Geochemistry, and Petrology Division, University of Hawai'i, USA; Rovicky Dwi Putrohari, Chief of Indonesian Association of Geologists, Vice President Exploration of Saka Energi Indonesia; Subandrio, Chief of Research and Technology Development Agency for Vulcanology (Bpptk) Yogyakarta, Indonesia;

  • There was an expert meeting, the World Conference of Cities on Volcanoes in UGM from 9-12  September
  • There was the AUSN/UNSOED Intensive Training Course in Bioethics from 9 – 11 September in Purwokerto, Java (2 hours train trip from Jogyakarta) facilitated by Prof. Darryl Macer



The participants endorsed the:

  • "Sendai Communique"

and also are working on a LBD5 statement.
