Bioethics and Genetics Network

Eubios Journal of Asian and International Bioethics 5 (1995), 10-11.
There have been a variety of networks on different topics in bioethics set up by members of the International Association of Bioethics (IAB). The membership of these networks is open to those interested in research in the specific fields. One of these is a Genetics network, and the EJAIB replaced the Eubios Ethics Institute Newsletter as the forum for exchange within the Genetics network.
The Network will facilitate international communication about research, publications, meetings, etc. related to ethical, legal and social issues raised by both human and non-human applications of genetics and biotechnology. You are invited to send reprints, statements of research interests and activities, notices, news, etc., to :
Dr. Darryl Macer Institute of Biological Sciences, University of Tsukuba, Tsukuba Science City, Ibaraki 305, JAPAN

Further news from the meeting of the Board of Directors of the IAB held at the Second World Conference of the International Association of Bioethics, Buenos Aires, October 1994, is the planning of a long- awaited Newsletter. Readers of the EJAIB should also know that we have invited the IAB to include news in the EJAIB, and several members of the editorial board are representatives of the IAB.

Ruth Chadwick is now the Editor of the soon to be published newsletter of the Association. Network coordinators are invited and encouraged to report on their networks in this Newsletter which will be sent to all members:

Prof. Ruth Chadwick

Another suggestion was that meetings of the networks be arranged to coincide with IAB Conferences as much as possible. Details of the 1996 IAB Conference will be announced as soon as possible so that this can be considered when planning meetings. The Genetics network will have a meeting at the 1996 Congress, and see the current list of members in this journal. If you have any news for the Genetics network, please send to Darryl Macer, for inclusion in the EJAIB.

Some of the networks have already suggested in their own newsletters, etc. that the network members join the IAB. New members are desired. Subscriptions to IAB can now be paid using VISA or MasterCard credit cards. At the General Meeting of the IAB members at Buenos Aires, Peter Singer mentioned the possibility of small one-off grants to networks. You need to state your reasons for needing the grant when you apply, and how much you need. Grants can only be offered if the IAB membership is strong enough to support extra demands on its finances.
